NEW BRITAIN - The Goodwin Tech girls basketball team took control of its game against Innovation early and cruised to the win on Tuesday afternoon.
In a rematch of last season’s first round matchup in the Class S state tournament, the Gladiators led by 17 at halftime and held the Ravens scoreless in the third quarter.
Joarielys Martinez and Paola Barbosa had big days for Goodwin Tech as they scored 15 and 11 points respectively. For Innovation, Aryanna Townsend was a bright spot as she recorded a triple-double with 12 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals.
The Gladiators are 4-2 now while Innovation dropped to 1-4.
Goodwin Tech 64, Innovation 25: The Goodwin Tech boys basketball made quick work of Innovation on Tuesday night. The Gladiators led by 34 at half and never looked back. Goodwin Tech was led by Luis Aguiar who had 16 points to lead three Gladiators in double-figures. Ramiesh Bogle had a team-high six points for Innovation which fell to 1-2 with the loss.
Enfield 61, Plainville 45: Plainville’s Brady Callahan dropped 27 points for the boys basketball team on Tuesday night but it was not enough as the Blue Devils fell to Enfield by 15. Callahan’s 27 points were a game-high and were also 23 points higher than the next Plainville player. With the loss the Blue Devils have dropped to 0-3 on the young season.
Shelton 76, Berlin 75 (OT): The Berlin boys basketball team overcame a 14 point halftime deficit to force overtime against Shelton on Tuesday night but was unable to finish it off with a one-point loss. Spencer Duke and Kyle Mogielnicki had huge performances for the Redcoats in the loss. Duke had a team-high 27 points while, Mogielnicki added 24. Jeff Stockman of Shelton had a game-high 32 points in the contest. Berlin fell to 1-2 with the loss while Shelton has won its first three games.
