Sports Roundup: Innovations boys basketball falls, Plainville girls basketball advances to Rybczyk Tournament finals

The Innovation boys basketball team was able to keep the game close through two quarters, but a tough third quarter ultimately sealed its loss to Abbot Tech Thursday in the Goodwin Tech Holiday Tournament where the Ravens fell 48-32.

Linwood Hazelwood had a team-high eight points for Innovation, while teammate Armoni Alonso finished with six. In total, seven different Ravens finished with points on the stat sheet, but the other five finished with five points or less. Innovation was outshot from the free-throw line 14-3.

Freddie Espino netted a game-high 17 points for Abbot Tech. Both teams are now 1-3 in the early part of the season.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Plainville 49, SMSA 46: The Blue Devils were able to hold off SMSA in a close game to advance to the girls’ portion of the finals of the Rybczyk Tournament where they will face off against St. Paul Friday at 7:30 p.m.

At 3-2, Plainville has already matched its win total from last season and will look to continue to build upon its early season success.
