Sports Roundup: Southington girls volleyball sweeps Conard after tough third set

WEST HARTFORD - In what started out to be an easy match, turned into a back-and-forth one in the final game.

But in the end, it was the Southington girls volleyball team that topped Conard 25-23 in the third game and earned the 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-23) sweep Monday night.

There were plenty of highlights for the Blue Knights. Erica Bruno had eight kills; Hannah Zelina had six kills, six aces and nine digs; Steph Zera recorded 32 assists and two aces.

Southington is now 2-0 on the season.

Innovation 3, Capital Prep 0: The Ravens picked up their first win of the season thanks to a clean sweep over the Trailblazers 25-9, 25-5, 25-15. Danelys Arroyo-Baez had three kills and six aces for Innovation, while teammate Imani Rosado tallied six aces as well.

Goodwin Tech 3, Kaynor Tech 1: After dropping the first set, the Gladiators responded by taking the next three. Tiana Afanador had 11 service points and six aces; Joareiys Pino tallied 11 service points, eight aces and eight kills; while Tamira Machado recorded four digs, three kills and nine service points.
