Sports Roundup: Sisti's second-half goals lead Berlin girls soccer to win over Bristol Eastern

BRISTOL - The Bristol Eastern girls soccer team led at halftime, but a pair of second half goals by Julia Sisti won Friday afternoon’s game for Berlin, 2-1.

“Berlin created extensively more chances.” Lancers coach Scott Redman said. “Eastern had a chance to tie it with three minutes left, but could not get on the back end of a cross as the ball glided through the box.”

In the 15th minute, Bristol Eastern’s Myah Croze scored off a cross from Sara Tyminski, with the play set up by Kailey Laprise, who played the ball to Tyminski.

In the 45th minute, Sisti dribbled by three Lancers defenders to score the equalizer, then a minute later she did the exact same thing to net the go-ahead goal.

Goalkeeper Lindsay Walsh made two saves for Berlin (4-1), while Karly Martin stopped nine shots for Bristol Eastern (1-3).

Plainville 2, Maloney 0: Krystyna Miller scored a pair of goals for the Blue Devils as they picked up a victory at home, improving to 3-2.

“I’m very pleased with how our team played,” Plainville coach Leszek Wrona said.

Cortney Ouellette assisted on both goals and Wrona also praised the efforts of Hannah Zelasko and Serena Simard.

Madeline Rund made five saves for Plainville, while Abi Lesoier stopped five shots for Middletown (1-4).

Innovation 3, MLC 0: Victoria Piechota, Kelsey Walicki and Malena Van Beveren each had goals to lead Innovation to a shutout victory at home Friday afternoon. Melinda Knopf added an assist.

Innovation improves to 3-1, while MLC is 0-1-1.

BOYS SOCCER

Glastonbury 3, Southington 1: Haden Burbank scored the lone goal for the Blue Knights during a loss at Glastonbury High.

Glastonbury (3-1-1) got goals from Tyler Lips, Andrew Sullivan and Jacob Gardner.

In net, Glastonbury’s Bennett Cole made seven saves, while John Griffin stopped eight shots for Southington (1-2-2).

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Bristol Eastern 3, Berlin 0: The Lancers brought their record back over the .500 mark with a 25-12, 25-16, 25-16 victory at Berlin.

For the Lancers (3-2), Zoe Lowe had 11 kills and three aces, Alex DiMattia had six aces and nine digs and Aliana Rivoira had 28 assists.

Berlin fell to 1-5.

New Britain 3, Hartford Public 0: The Hurricanes swept their way to a 25-16, 25-8, 25-14 victory in Hartford.

For New Britain (4-3), Raven Jarrett had 11 kills, Nelanie Velez had 20 assists, Charliann Reyes had 13 service points and seven aces, Nariely Andujar had seven digs and Sara Manuele had 11 digs and 10 service points.

Hartford Public fell to 2-4.

Newington 3, Bloomfield 0: The Indians cruised to a 25-4, 25-12, 15-11 victory at Bloomfield, improving to 5-2 for the season.

For Newington, Meghan Roberts had seven kills and Yasmin Rincon had four aces and nine assists.

Bloomfield fell to 1-6.

Innovation 3, Public Safety 0: Innovation improved to 4-1 for the season with a 25-12, 25-17, 25-15 victory at home.

For Innovation, Morgan Sartor had five aces, Monica Walker had three aces and Bailey Nardi had five kills.

Public Safety fell to 0-6.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Bristol Eastern 93, Newington 89: The Lancers picked up their first win of the season in a meet at Newington.

“The team has been getting stronger and stronger as we continue the season,” Lancers coach Nick Daddabbo said.

Kaylin Koh won the 200 freestyle for Bristol Eastern (1-2), while Brianna Ogonowski won the 200 IM, Julia Michaud won the 100 butterfly and Noelle Bruce was third in the 100 freestyle.

Eastern also swept the top three places in diving with Zoe Dichello, Emily McCunry and Rachel Gorneault.

Newington got wins from Amber Rocheleau (50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke), Gabriella Targonska (100 freestyle, 100 backstroke) and Sarah Nadratowski (500 freestyle).

The Indians were alive in the meet through the second to last event before Bristol Eastern clinched the victory.
