EAST HADDAM - It was the Kelsey Walicki and Victoria Piechota show for the Innovation girls soccer team Monday afternoon.
Piechota scored twice in the first half and Walicki finished with a hat trick in the second as the Ravens beat Hale Ray 5-2.
Knotted 2-2 at halftime, Walicki’s first goal of the afternoon came 20 seconds into the second half to put Innovation ahead for good.
Mackensie Spencer finished the day with an assist with Ravens goalkeeper Lianna Giles saving two of four shots.
Innovation is now 4-1 on the season.
Berlin 2, Plainville 0: Julia Sisti once again came up big for the Redcoats. The senior forward netted a goal in each half on assists from Maxine Muscatello and Cameron Michalek.
Both Berlin’s offense and defense were busy throughout the night. The Redcoats outshot Plainville 37-0, leaving goalkeeper Lindsey Walsh with little to do in net. Blue Devil goalie Maddy Rund had an exceptional day, saving 21 shots.
Newington 7, Hartford Public 1: The game was close between the two - until the second half began. Up just a goal at halftime, the Indians netted five afterwards to pick up their first win of the season. Hermish Adarkwah scored two of his three goals, while Trey Sadler, Aslan Tate and Billy Lichota each put the ball in the back of the net once.
Collin Liedke joined Adarkwah in Newington players scoring in the first half.
The Indians also got strong play from the goalkeeper, Jack DeGirolamo, who saved 11 shots, letting up just the first-half goal to Hartford Public’s Jose Lopez.
Farmington 5, Southington 0: Nothing seemed to go right for the Blue Knights. By halftime, they were already looking at a 3-0 deficit, while the Indians added two more afterwards.
Will Fitzsimmons scored twice for Farmington with teammates Jake Dunst, Ben Hughes and Nico Machado adding a goal apiece.
John Griffin and Robert LaCluyze combined to save eight of 13 shots for Southington.
New Britain 3, Windsor 0: It wasn’t an easy match, but the Hurricanes were able to come out on top thanks to three strong set scores of 25-21, 25-19, 25-19. Nelanie Velez had 14 assists for New Britain as teammates Talia Marks and Sara Manuel finished with four blocks and 15 digs respectively. Nariely Andujar collected eight service points for the Hurricanes and was a perfect 14-for-14 on serves.
Newington 3, Hartford Public 0: Newington dominated the court Monday night. The Indians shut out Hartford Public 3-0 with set scores of 25-8, 25-16, 25-9. Meghan Roberts had six kills while Paige Trumbull had five kills of her own. Newington is now 6-2 on the season.
Goodwin Tech 3, Gilbert 0: Going on their 7-0 run, Goodwin Tech continued its undefeated run. The Gladiators shutout the Yellow Jackets 3-0 with set scores of 25-21, 25-18, 29-27. Goodwin Tech was able to find a way to win despite not playing to their full potential. Tanija Russell was a big help on the court Monday night; she had 12 service points, six aces, one block and four kills. Leina Rivera also had 10 service points, 4 aces, 7 kills and 13 digs. Goodwin Tech had many errors on the court but still came out victorious.
