Sports Roundup: Berlin girls volleyball snaps New Britain's six-match win streak

NEW BRITAIN - The New Britain girls volleyball team saw its six-game winning streak snapped against Berlin on Wednesday.

After the Hurricanes won the first set 27-25, the Redcoats came back to win the next three sets 25-20, 25-13 and 25-11 behind strong matches from Jenna Baruffi (34 assists, 3 blocks, 13 digs) and Alyssa Dumont (13 kills, 5 digs).

The win is the third straight for Berlin.

New Britain kept it close in the second set before falling apart in the final two sets.

For the Hurricanes, Talia Marks (9 service points, 3 aces, 3 blocks), Mariely Andujar (9 digs) and Charliann Pedraza (7 kills) tried their best to keep New Britain in the match.

Berlin moves to 9-7 on the season, while the Hurricanes drop to 11-5.

The Redcoats will travel to Platt Friday, while New Britain will host Newington on Friday.

Innovation 3, Aerospace 0: The Ravens improved to 13-2 with a 25-13, 25-21, 25-11 victory at home.

For Innovation, Bailee Nardi had 10 kills, Aliyah Merced had six digs and Imani Rosado had 17 assists.

Aerospace fell to 7-10.


Newington 2, Bloomfield 0: The Indians got goals from Trey Sadler and Dominic Palaia, with Sadler also adding an assist, as they picked up a victory in Bloomfield.

Jack DeGirolamo made two saves to earn the shutout for Newington (4-7-1), while Jhalin Wilson stopped six shots for Bloomfield.
