BRISTOL - The Berlin girls basketball team is heading back to the Class M postseason.
Ashley Wenzel scored a game-high 21 points and Angela Perrelli added 14 as the Redcoats beat Bristol Central 59-23 Monday night.
“I’m very pleased to have qualified [for the postseason] at this point in the season,” Berlin head coach Sheila King said. “We have great team chemistry right now and are playing well.”
The Redcoats certainly played well on the defensive end of the court, holding the Rams to single digits in every quarter expect for the third when Bristol Central managed 11 points.
Gwen Torreso led the Rams with 12 points, their only player to finish in double figures.
Berlin used that defensive effort to jump out to a large first-quarter lead and cruised from there.
“Our defense is stepping up and improving every game,” King said. “It’s leading to some quality shots on offense.”
The Redcoats are now 8-7 on the season.
HMTCA 51, Innovation 17: The Ravens got off to a slow start and were never able to recover.
Bailee Nardi and Ari Townsend led Innovation with six points each.
HMTCA on the other hand, had two players finish with double-digit point totals. Nicole Rosado scored 21 points, while Larnee Satchell added 10.
The Ravens are now 6-9 on the season and are still two wins from qualifying for the postseason.
