Roundup: Bristol Eastern dispatches Wethersfield in end-of-season upset

BRISTOL – Senior Dom Femiak scored twice in the second half to lead the Lancers to a 2-0 win over Wethersfield on Thursday night.

“We withstood Wethersfield’s pressure and countered quickly tonight,” Eastern coach Bill Sweet said.

Femiak scored on a penalty kick after senior Adam Borry was taken down in the box five minutes into the second half. Femiak doubled the score in the 61st-minute when he took a Tyler Borry pass, beat two defenders and Wethersfield’s goalie Ricky Torres. Torres finished with five saves.

“Our practices leading to tonight were outstanding and our seniors came through tonight,” Sweet said. “Dylan Piazza made 9 saves in a suberb effort in goal. Backs Connor Cyr, Carter Harris, Dre Gonzalez, and Preston Guarda were solid.”

Eastern hosts Bristol Central Tuesday night at 7.

Innovation 1, Prince Tech/University 1: A goal from sophomore Yosef Alsafari was all the Ravens could muster as they draw the Prince Tech-University co-op for the second time this season. Junior Paramvir Rakwal scored the equalizer for Prince Tech-University as both sides look to bolster their records before the postseason.

Goalkeepers Arnez Falcon (Innovation) and Cullen Dalton (Prince Tech-University) each finished with six saves. Innovation plays again Friday on the road against Civic Leadership.


Innovation 3, Cheney Tech 0The Innovation girls volleyball team picked up its 11th win of the season with a clean sweep of Cheney Tech (25-13, 25-12, 25-18).

The Ravens took advantage of a struggling opponent and earned a litany of points from their serving. Senior Ashley Palombizio finished the match with eight aces while freshman Madison Ramos posted seven aces. Junior Tynise Rose made seven kills and one block in the match while junior Ciara Cardona had 10 assists and two digs.

Despite being on the road, Innovation honored its seniors before this game, recognizing Daniah Sawyer, Katherine Palombizio, Ashley Palombizio, Naisha Aponte and manager Thalia Aponte.

The Ravens return to the court Friday to host Valley Regional at 5 p.m.
