NEW BRITAIN – Goodwin Tech girls basketball earned its first win of the season Monday night, beating Innovation 40-20.
A one-point game through the first quarter, Goodwin extended the difference to five at the halftime at 16-11. Goodwin then went on a 12-2 run through the third quarter, extending the lead through the final horn.
Leading in points for the Gladiators was Megan Lukeszewski, scoring 14 points and connecting from 3-point range twice. Ericka Aponte had 13 points.
For Innovation, the Ravens were led by Teijah Roberts’ 14 points, four of which came from the free-throw line.
INDOOR TRACK
St. Paul co-op’s indoor track season has not officially started yet, but is already off to a hot start.
In the pole vault, Owen Wood is on a mission to break the state record, and cleared 10 feet, six inches in a preseason event.
The current pole vault record sits at 15 feet, 10 inches by both Chris Rough (Westhill, Samford) and Joseph Fogarasi 0 (Windham) – who both accomplished the feat in 2015.
