Boys swim and diving

Farmington 84, Berlin 78: Berlin and Farmington boys swim and diving battled it out to an 84-78 score Wednesday night, with the Redcoat swimmers scoring 78 points.

Matt Jamrozek took second in the 50 meter freestyle while making the state-qualifying cut in Class M with a time of 23.83. Other notable finishes included Logan Szczesniak ending as the runner-up in the 200 free at 2:01.71 (personal best) and Marcel Dabek taking second in the 100 breaststroke at 1:09.28. Farmington took first in every event.

“We knew coming in that Farmington was a deep, strong team and that we were in for a challenge. That being said, I was really pleased with the effort and results for our guys,” said Berlin swim and dive coach Daniel Thurston. “They came out with over 30 personal best times in their first meet of the year and as a coach and team we really can't ask for more than that. The energy level on the side of the pool was really high and is something that I think we'll really have an impact later this season. … Overall, our team came out of this meet feeling like we really accomplished some goals and set a great starting point for our season.”
