Suburban Woman’s Club of New Britain
To the Editor:
“Flags on the Green,” presented for the seventh consecutive year by the Suburban Woman’s Club of New Britain, will again honor those veterans who have served our nation in the past to protect our freedoms, as well as to honor those men and women who are presently serving in the military.
Mary Lou Mancini and Laura Napoletano are serving as co-chairmen of this annual Memorial Day event and are looking for the support from our community.
Flags are again being sold for a $10 fee and each flag will be placed on the Franklin Square green on Tuesday, May 30, the date that the city of New Britain celebrates Memorial Day.
Each flag will have the name of the honoree attached to it.
Flags may then be picked up following the parade at the green on Franklin Square or from members of the Suburban Woman’s Club.
Area residents are encouraged to purchase flags for family members and friends who have served in the past to protect our freedoms, as well as to honor those men and women who are presently serving our country in the armed forces.
We also encourage local veterans groups to purchase flags in memory of/or in honor of members of their organizations.
In the past, members of our club have raised funds which supported programs of the Veteran’s Affairs Offices at Central Connecticut State University, the Rocky Hill Veteran’s Home and the New Britain home for our homeless Veterans on Arch Street.
Members of the public may contact Mrs. Mancini at 860-225-3423 or Mrs. Napoletano at 860-828-4760 to purchase a flag or may contact any club member.
Those who have participated in the “Flags on the Green” in the past, have received an invitation in the mail to once again have an active part in the Memorial Day tribute to our veterans.
Just one more small way to show that we all care about our veterans. Can we count on your support?
