To the Editor:
Darwin Shaw has been a positive role model and leader in the New Britain school system for years. His influence on the young people of the city has been profound, affecting several generations of high school students.
He also has been a leader in the broader community, in his church and in civic activities.
He is exactly the kind of person we need in New Britain and in our schools.
It is not uncommon for a new coach to bring in his or her own staff, but certainly Shaw, with his level of demonstrated commitment and effectiveness, deserves to have a place in the basketball program. Let us all hope this current controversy can be resolved fairly and that Darwin Shaw remains a part of the high school sports program.
