Your View: Berlin losing valued town employees

Dear Editor,

Berlin has lost another talented and dedicated professional.

Hellyn Riggins, our town planner, who was often unfairly denounced by Mayor Kaczynski, has joined the other employees who have either been fired or bailed out from the chaos existing in the Town Hall!

 July 2016, Jim Wren, the finance director, having read the handwriting on the wall by the creation of an outmoded finance board, became Bloomfield’s finance director;

 December 2016, the Republican council members fired, without cause Denise McNair; still no suitable replacement, town engineer is filling in;

 February 2017, the tax collector, David Kluzwski, having been verbally mistreated by Mayor Kaczynski, became Fairfield’s tax collector;

 March 2017, Adam Tulin, the purchasing agent, left and was hired as Manchester’s purchasing director;

 The Republicans reneging on allowing us to vote on the proposed police station has convinced Police Chief Paul Fitzgerald to also leave this month.

The unnecessary mistreatment of the dedicated staff has seriously affected the morale of those who remain. This reckless conduct hampers any efforts to secure a competent, professionally trained replacement town manager.

On Nov. 7th, we have the opportunity to stop the hemorrhaging. Rich Paskiewicz, JoAnn Angelico-Stetson, Karen Pagliaro and Peter Rosso will restore responsible leadership to Berlin.
