To the Editor:
On Nov. 7, I will be casting my vote for Veronica DeLandro for alderwoman in Ward 1. For the past decade, Veronica has served in various senior leadership roles at nonprofits that serve women and children in Connecticut’s urban areas. In 2009, she was appointed to serve on New Britain’s Youth & Family Services Commission. Veronica was also asked to serve on the Consolidated District of New Britain’s Graduation Odyssey Task Force, a dropout prevention, intervention and recovery program that targeted sixth and ninth graders in New Britain Public Schools. She understands the value of investing in our community and helping it grow.
In a time where our city’s schools are struggling, we need more people like Veronica and fellow Democrat Merrill Gay, who have proven track records of helping young people succeed. With Merrill and Veronica, I believe the people of New Britain will see a new approach to helping our students succeed and a better return on their investment as taxpayers.
While this may be Veronica’s first time running for office, her professional experience as an executive director and president of nonprofits makes her more than qualified to represent the people of Ward 1. I hope you will join me in supporting Veronica on Nov. 7. Her energy, passion and perspective would bring a welcome change to city hall.
