To the Editor:

New Britain residents are fortunate to have the services of our Police Department and Chief James Wardwell, his staff and aggressive police service dogs for the safety of all our citizens.

These trained police dogs help apprehend burglars, drug dealers and sniff out crime scenes and locate dead bodies. They play a very important role by their services and are greatly needed by the police.

To help defray the cost, for our public safety, the Citizens Property Owners Association, a local taxpayers group, donated $1,500 to defray costs (i.e., purchase, training, medical and maintenance expenses) for Stanley, a bloodhound puppy. Since last year, he grew up quite a bit. Any other donations to the Police Department Service Fund would greatly help. God Bless.
