To The Editor:

Congratulations to all who made the Souper Bowl event held to benefit the Friendship Center soup kitchen a big success.

However, two groups of young people deserve special recognition. First, kudos to the ceramics students and alumni (who returned especially to participate) who, with the caring guidance of Professor Garcia, volunteered their time to create more than 350 beautiful soup bowls in less than three hours last month.

They spent further time, talent and effort to inscribe, glaze, fire, and box up the bowls which were delivered to Goodwin Tech where the event was held.

Their enthusiasm and energy for the task were inspiring. (Pictures at facebook.com/friendshpservicecenter).

Second, applause to the culinary students at Goodwin Tech, under the supervision of faculty chefs and Friendship Center chefs. They presented and servied the delicious soups, chili, and stew donated by several area restaurants in a most professional manner.

They gladly filled and refilled the bowls hundreds of times for satisfied patrons and pitched in to help clean up.

The future of our communities will be in good hands as these responsible, committed young people move successfully into their chosen careers.

Thank you for your contributions.
