YOUR VIEW: 'Desirable schedule' is a win-win for taxpayers

To The Editor:

Regarding the letter about the new firefighter contract that Ken Cockayne sent (but probably did not write) to The Bristol Press last week:

The “desirable schedule” that previous administrations blocked is a win-win for the taxpayers and the firefighters. Taxpayers get the same number of hours of firefighters on the job, and firefighters get a full 72 hours to decompress after 24 hours of duty.

And if comparing Bristol to other towns is “apples to oranges”, that’s only because Bristol is, bizarrely, one of the few towns in the state that does not send the fire department to all car crashes. End that bad policy, and our firefighters would be just as busy as those in other towns.

As for the documents you’ve asked the mayor to provide, but hasn’t: maybe they’re in the bunch of papers you were seen shredding the days after the election. Just a guess.
