To The Editor:
I read that ESPN “...will air the national anthem this season only when doing so feels newsworthy...” CBS and Fox have made similar decisions while NBC has not finalized how to handle the anthem.” Where is their patriotism?
I present what I feel is a simple solution: When I was growing up, TV was not 24/7 and at midnight when the stations were going off the air, they played the national anthem while displaying our American flag.
This is our country’s national anthem and should be played before sporting events and shown on TV. While the national anthem is being played, just spotlight our American Flag and not the athletes or the spectators. Our country and flag then get the respect and honor they deserve. I am an American and a patriot. Most Americans are proud to feel the same The athletes can do what they feel is important to them and those of us at the venue or at home can enjoy listening to our national anthem without the political statements.
