YOUR VIEW: Plainville voters need to wake up

To The Editor:

Well folks, it is budget time again in Plainville. It looks like there is no way to avoid an increase in taxes this year, with contractual and the usual increases in running and supporting a town government.

Once again it is up to the taxpaying voters to come out on April 30 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and cast your vote in favor of or against a tax increase. Last year we had about 5 percent of eligible voters come out and vote on the budget.

I realize that some voters have a legitimate reason for not being able to vote, but 90 percent not showing up to participate in an important part of our government, does not show much for the character of Plainville citizens.

A lot of citizens are saying that their vote doesn’t matter because after two voting sessions the council will set the budget, I disagree.

I have a question for all the voters who did not vote on the last budget and do not agree with the tax increase this year. If someone offered you a few dollars to come out and vote on the budget would you do it? Well that is exactly what the Town Council is doing!

If you vote no on the budget and check the box of too high, the Council most likely reduce the budget, there by paying you dollars off your tax bill, think about it.

Come on Plainville, wake up and do your civic duty, take 15 minutes of your time to be a participating citizen and show that you care about Plainville.
