NEW BRITAIN - He started at a firm in Hartford, but in 1989 he moved to New Britain where he’s been for the majority of his life.
Frank Marrocco, owner of Frank D. Marrocco CPA, has been working with some of the same clients since his move, while helping new clients and growing his business.
“One thing I’ve always felt with my business, what makes it different from somebody else, is I don’t think of a client as a client. I think of them as someone that I really want to see them do well. It’s almost like a family member,” said Marrocco, who’s helped generations of people since he became a certified public accountant in 1974. “I have clients I’ve been working with for 30 or 40 years,” and across three generations of families, he said.
Located at 142 W. Main St., Marrocco’s staff includes Cheryl Sylvain, who holds an accounting degree from Central Connecticut State University and celebrates her 30th year in the industry in May. Administrative assistant Marisol Anderson is also part of the team. Anderson replaced Elvita Barnes, who retired after 14 years with Marrocco.
“I think that’s pretty good, we haven’t had a lot of turnover,” said Marrocco. “They feel as they are a mutual part of the business. It’s a pretty good, cohesive unit that we have.”
The business, which will be celebrating their 30th anniversary at their current location, advises customers on income tax planning and preparation, accounting, financial reporting, estate and trust accounting and tax services, payroll preparation and retirement planning.
The business’s client base has been growing steadily and comfortably over the last several years, Marrocco said.
With the new federal tax code passed earlier this year, Marrocco said he has the technology to project what people’s returns will be when they file them next year. He can also help with new tax laws coming from the state legislature.
All these services are available at a competitive rate since clients can find the help they need in one office.
With about 95 percent of his work coming through referrals, Marrocco said he is very much involved with the community. As a member of the New Britain Network Group - an organization made up of nearly three dozen distinct and different businesses - Marrocco has helped many local organizations.
“I work in New Britain and live in New Britain, I want New Britain to be a good place for people to live in, work in, enjoy,” said Marrocco.
Marrocco was recently recognized for his 40 years of service by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is also on the on the committee for the Connecticut State Society of CPAs and participates in the peer review program for the Connecticut State Society - which means every three years his firm is evaluated for quality and completeness. His firm also meets the requirement of 40 hours of Continuing Professional Education.
