NEW BRITAIN - In 2018, Martin Rosol’s Inc. was chosen as the family business of the year by the Hartford Business Journal, and has proven to be a longtime family business, offering quality products.
Martin Rosol’s has been in New Britain for more than 90 years, providing fresh meat products.
“2018 was our 90th year in business, that was a good milestone,” Teddy Rosol, general manager of the business, said. “We are excited to keep it going for another 90 years.”
According to Rosol, the business is ready to go into its busiest time of the year, Easter.
“We are looking forward to producing a bunch of kielbasa. That’s our main product,” Rosol said. “We’ll go through over 130,000 pounds of kielbasa in the next eight weeks.”
Right afterward, Rosol’s jumps into hot dog season because that’s its other main product.
Martin Rosol’s serves grocery stores, delis and restaurants around the state. The business has two trucks that go out every day throughout the state for distribution.
In addition, Martin Rosol’s has a retail store on Grove Street, where the public can go in and out to pick up hot dogs that were made on the same day.
“It’s nice and fresh, we’re kind of unique,” Rosol said. “We cook everything here.”
The business was started in 1928 by Rosol’s great-grandfather, Martin Rosol. He was a Polish immigrant who started making meat products in his garage and then decided to make a business out of it.
“Our recipes are from my great grandfather, Martin, they’re his original recipes,” Rosol said. “It’s just made fresh every day. Our meat is never frozen. The ingredients are always fresh and we have authentic gourmet meat products.”
In 2019 the business is looking into offering chorizo or andouille, a more spicy type of sausage.
“The core products always stay the same,” Rosol said. “We do a good job of holding onto our core values as well, implementing new technologies. We have to get new machines but we always make sure the product stays high quality.”
In the past two to three years, the company has invested in some new machinery that can double the production capacity.
In addition, Martin Rosol’s offers products online that allow the business to ship products throughout the United States.
“If they grew up in New Britain and they still want a taste of what they grew up on, if they moved away, they can get our products online,” Rosol said. “That will be busy during Easter and summer as well.”
Martin Rosol’s is a fourth-generation family business, led by Rosol’s mother, Sarah Rosol, who serves as the president.
“We take pride in using fresh ingredients so the meat is never frozen,” Rosol said. “It’s just made fresh daily.”
