NEWINGTON - Tom Donagher & Sons Landscaping has been serving the city for over 30 years, offering a wide selection of landscaping services.
Located at 79 Willard Ave., the business offers services including lawn maintenance, arbor construction, brick and stone driveway installation/repair, deicing, erosion control, flower planting, gardening, hydroseeding, ice removal, construction, block work, concrete work, driveway and sidewalk paving and winter maintenance.
Tom Donagher & Sons Landscaping is a small, family-owned business started in 1986.
“When my father was about 18 years old, he started another landscaping business which was Donagher Brothers Landscaping; he just enjoyed the gardening work and working outside.
“He went into business with his brothers and eventually that didn’t work out, so he had closed that business,” said Rose Roy, office manager, who also is the owner’s sister. “He then went to work in a shop, but he really couldn’t stand being in a shop all day, so then, when my brothers Tom Jr. and Sean got a little older, he started a new business with them: Tom Donagher & Sons Landscaping.”
When Tom Sr. retired, the brothers split off, Tom Jr. remained and Sean went out on his own starting a landscaping business called Sean Donagher Landscaping. The brothers work out of the same Willard Avenue address, but have their own separate businesses.
“Each of them usually has themselves plus five or six additional employees. It varies from year to year,” said Roy.
Tom Donagher & Sons Landscaping serves Newington and surrounding towns.
“A lot of West Hartford, Farmington, some Bloomfield, Wethersfield, and some New Britain,” said Roy.
To ensure its workers are able to efficiently do their jobs, the company makes sure to purchase new equipment to replace broken equipment and buy the latest models, which might make the job easier, faster and more efficient.
“They did get this new fertilizing machine that you stand on instead of hand pushing,” said Roy.
Tom Donagher & Sons Landscaping donates to the Parks and Recreation Golf Tournament, to Human Services for its food drive, and to other local town events.
