LANCASTER, Pa. - It took one pitch from Brandon League for the game to turn against the New Britain Bees.

League had already surrendered two runs in the eighth inning and had the bases loaded with two outs. All he needed was a final out to end the inning, but could not deliver as Garrett Weber scored on a wild pitch resulting in a 6-5 loss to the Lancaster Barnstormers Wednesday.

Following the three-run eighth inning for Lancaster, its closer Anthony Carter came on to shut the door on New Britain. He did just that with a flawless 1-2-3 inning including a strikeout.

James Skelton and Jovan Rosa delivered huge offensive performances to support the strong starting pitching from Southington native Nick Greenwood. The left-hander threw six strong innings and allowed just two earned runs before handing the ball to the pen. He gave up nine hits and walked one Barnstormers batter.

The Bees offense struck in the third inning and seventh innings. Skelton singled in Michael Crouse to put the Bees up 1-0 and two batters later, a single by Rosa scored Skelton en route to a two-run third. In the seventh inning, Skelton’s two-run homer scored Michael Baca. Rosa’s RBI double later in the inning led to the pitching change for Lancaster after reliever Kevin Munson failed to record an out.

Lancaster’s Sean Halton was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. The Barnstormers leadoff hitter Beau Amaral went 2-for-5 with a run scored in the contest.

Barnstormers starting pitcher Joe Gardner allowed two earned runs and had five strikeouts in his five innings of work. Gardner gave up six hits and walked two batters.

With the loss, the Bees drop to 9-16 on the season after having won its previous two games.
