NEW BRITAIN - Kyle Simon did his part on the mound Saturday night, but the New Britain Bees offense failed to provide their pitcher any help.

As Simon went the distance, throwing his third consecutive complete game, the Bees managed just three hits in a 3-0 loss to the Long Island Ducks.

Over his nine innings of work, the right-hander gave up three runs and seven hits. He also struck out three and walked one. It was Simon’s (9-11) first walk in his last fifteen innings.

As usual Simon kept the pace of play moving. The game lasted just two hours and 18 minutes.

“I just try to get in and out as quickly as possible,” Simon said. “I kind of put in that pace of play about year or a year and a half ago, I’m just trying to make baseball more interesting. [Baseball’s] boring as it is and when people kind of rummage around doing stuff, so I try to quicken the game up. We’re in and out, so people can see action rather than just balls.”

Long Island broke through for the first runs of the game in the fourth inning on back-to-back RBI singles by Ruben Gotay and Elmer Reyes.

The Ducks added an extra insurance run in the eighth inning when Reyes hit a sacrifice fly bringing Mark Krauss home to put the game at its final mark of 3-0.

“It was some pretty brutal hits when they came,” Simon said. “But we had great defense and I’m a guy that pitches contact and that’s what I did today.

“We just didn’t have the offense. It is what it is, it’s baseball. We just need to get our bats going, you can’t win if you don’t score any runs. Our bats are going to come around we just weren’t selling it tonight.”

The series between the Bees and the Ducks will wrap up today at 1:35 p.m.
