Former Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs outfielder Ryan Kalish is the first player to sign with the New Britain Bees for the upcoming season. Kalish last played in 2016 with the Cubs, appearing in seven games before an injury ended his season.
“Ryan brings Major League experience to the club and is the first step in our quest to capture an Atlantic League Championship in 2018,” Bees general manager Brad Smith said.
Kalish began his professional career with the Red Sox after being selected in the ninth round of the 2006 amateur draft. The 29-year-old made his MLB debut in 2010 with Boston and also played in the 2012 season for the Red Sox. In 2016, Kalish joined the Cubs organization, where he appeared in seven games for the eventual world champions.
In 153 career games with Boston and Chicago, Kalish hit .245 with 27 extra-base hits, 36 RBI, 52 runs scored and 16 stolen bases.
