NEW BRITAIN - A late rally came up just short for the New Britain Bees on Sunday afternoon, as they ended their first home series of the season with a 3-2 loss to the Road Warriors, following wins in the first two games of the three-game set.

Down 3-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth, the Bees got a rally started when Deibinson Romero led off with a single and Darrell Ceciliani followed with an RBI double. Manny Ramirez Jr. went in to run for Ceciliani, representing the potential tying run at second with no outs, but he was left stranded there after a fly out to shallow center field, a strikeout and another fly out to center.

The Road Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an infield error, back-to-back singles and then a run-scoring double play.

The Road Warriors made it 3-0 in the top of the fourth when Gustavo Pierre hit a two-run homer with one out, following a hit batter.

New Britain shaved a run off that lead in the bottom of the frame when James Skelton hit a leadoff double, moved to third on a wild pitch with one out and then scored on another wild pitch with two outs.

Bees starter Zach Stewart went seven innings, taking the loss after allowing six hits and three runs, two earned, with a walk and three strikeouts. Elvin Ramirez pitched two scoreless innings in relief.

On Saturday, New Britain starter Mark Hamburger went eight full innings, allowing just one earned run on five hits and a walk while striking out three batters as the Bees won their second straight game over the Road Warriors, 7-1.

Reid Brignac went 3-for-4 with a run and two RBI for New Britain in the game.

The Bees took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double by Brignac and a run-scoring single from Jonathan Galvez. New Britain added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth for a 3-0 cushion when Skelton drove home Jamar Walton with a single. The Bees made it 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI groundout by Brignac.

New Britain broke the game open in the bottom of the eighth with three more runs on four hits, highlighted by an opposite-field RBI double off the wall in right field by Vinny Siena, his first hit in a Bees uniform, and an RBI single by Darren Ford.

In their home opener on Friday night, the Bees rebounded from an early 7-0 deficit in the top of the fourth inning to defeat the Road Warriors 9-8 in 10 innings.

In the bottom of the 10th with the bases loaded, Romero put the capper on an improbable comeback with a two-out RBI single off William Gabay that enabled Walton to cross the plate with the winning run, after he began the rally by being hit by a pitch thrown by losing pitcher Christian Flecha Astacio (0-1), while Manny Delcarmen (1-1) picked up the win out of the New Britain bullpen.

A two-run, two-out double by Anthony Ray capped a three-run rally by the Road Warriors in the second inning. The frame began with three straight singles and an error to score the first run, then a double play before Ray’s key hit.

In the top of the fourth, a walk and two singles loaded the bases for the Road Warriors with no outs. After a strikeout, Ray walked to force in a run, a sacrifice fly drove in another and Osvaldo Martinez delivered a two-run double for the 7-0 lead.

The Bees cut the lead to 7-4 in the bottom of the fourth as Conor Bierfeldt belted a three-run homer and Walton singled, stole second and scored on an RBI single from Skelton.

The Road Warrios got another run on an error in the top of the fifth inning, after a pair of one-out singles set the stage.

New Britain picked up another three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Romero doubled to lead off the inning, Galvez walked and Bierfeldt walked with one out to load the bases. Walton then delivered a three-run triple to right field to make the score 8-7, but was left stranded at third after a strikeout and a ground out.

The Bees tied the score in the bottom of the ninth with a two-out rally after a double play left the bases empty. Galvez was hit by a pitch and stole second, then Brignac tripled to center field to drive him in with the tying run, sending the game to extra innings.
