CENTRAL ISLIP, NY- It was a game of attrition.

Just three innings shy of what would have been two full games, the New Britain Bees and Long Island Ducks each attempted to take the rubber match of their three-game series Sunday afternoon.

The Bees had their chances late and even took the lead in the top-half of the 14th, but Lew Ford ended any chances of New Britain heading back home with a win an inning later. The Ducks designated hitter hit a two-run home run off newly re-signed left-hander Josh Outman in the 15th to hand New Britain a 4-2 loss.

John Brownell got the win after throwing six innings in which he gave up a run, while striking out three and walking five. He was the second Ducks pitcher to go six innings on the day, joining starter Jair Jurrjens.

After Ozney Guillen gave the Bees a 2-1 lead in the 14th after scoring on an error, Long Island tied the game up in the bottom of the frame on a Daniel Fields single.

Both runs were the first of the game since the seventh when New Britain evened the score at a run apiece when Guillen once again came up big for the Bees with an RBI single to score Matt Tuiasosopo. Guillen finished his afternoon going 2-for-6 and was the only player for New Britain with multiple hits.

Taylor Ard drove in the Ducks first run on a home run off Bees starter Andy Van Hekken. It was the starter’s lone mistake of the day having gone six innings, while giving up five hits, striking out six and walking none.

Tyler Badamo followed Van Hekken and proceeded to throw five shutout innings himself. The right-hander surrendered just a single run and struck out four.

Evan Scribner and Sam Gervacio then pitched two and then two-things of an inning respectively.
