NEW BRITAIN - Jovan Rosa is heading to Mexico.
The New Britain Bees announced on Monday the infielder had his contract purchased by Tabasco of the Mexican League. Rosa is the first New Britain player to have his contract purchased this year.
“Jovan has been an important member of this team since its inception in 2016,” Bees general manager Brad Smith said in a statement. “It’s great to see him receive this opportunity and we wish him the best of luck.”
The 31-year-old was among the franchise’s first signees when it came to New Britain and has played with the Bees, in part, in every year since.
In 2016, Rosa played in all 140 games and finished with a .283 batting average, 13 home runs and 59 RBI. In 2017, he led the Atlantic League in games played (139), hits (159), and doubles (40), while also finishing second in at-bats (530) and total bases (246), third in extra-base hits (56), including 15 home runs, and tenth in batting average (.300). The third baseman also posted 72 RBI.
Last year, he split time between Mayos de Navojoa of the Mexican League and New Britain. With the Bees, he hit .263 with six home runs and 25 RBI. Rosa appeared in seven games for the Bees this season, posting a .231 batting average with one home run and three RBI.
