WALDORF, Md. - The New Britain Bees’ series finale against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs was rained out on Sunday, a day after the teams split a doubleheader on Saturday.

The Bees won the first game on Saturday 4-1, behind a four-hitter from Cory Riordan, who went the distance in the scheduled seven-inning game.

A pinch-hit, three-run double by Ozzie Martinez in the top of the sixth inning provided the key offensive punch.

Home runs from Jason Rogers and Deibinson Romero helped the Bees jump out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning of the second game.

But the Blue Crabs clawed back into it with a three-run third inning, then broke the game open with a seven-run fifth - with a three-run double from Matt Dean and a grand slam by Rian Kiniry accounting for all seven runs.

Rogers went 3-for-4 with three RBI for New Britain in the game as the Bees fell to 6-8.

The Bees return to New Britain on Tuesday, when they host the Lancaster Barnstormers in the opener of a three-game series.
