NEW BRITAIN - Christian Friedrich is heading overseas. South Korea to be exact.

The right-hander had his contract purchased by the NC Dinos of the Korea Baseball Organization the New Britain Bees announced on Tuesday. The Korea Baseball Organization is the highest level of baseball in South Korea.

“Christian has been a very important member of our starting rotation and has excelled this season,” Bees general manager Brad Smith said in a statement. “It’s great to see him receive this chance to play overseas and we hope he has continued success.”

The 31-year-old made 11 starts for New Britain this season and compiled a 5-1 record with a 3.00 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 63 innings pitched. He is the third Bees player to have their contract purchased this season, joining Jovan Rosa and Taylor Motter.

He spent parts of four seasons in the big leagues in 2012 and from 2014-2016 with the Colorado Rockies and the San Diego Padres. Friedrich appeared in 124 games (42 starts) over those four seasons and finished with a 10-28 record and 5.37 ERA.
