NEW BRITAIN - For the second straight day on Sunday, the New Britain Bees lost to the visiting Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in extra innings.

After a back-and-forth 9-8 loss on Saturday night in 12 innings, the Bees battled through 10 scoreless innings against the Blue Crabs on Sunday before Southern Maryland’s Charlie Valerio drove in the winning run on a bunt single back to the mound with two outs in the 11th inning.

That bunt single was just the second hit allowed by New Britain pitching in the loss, as starter Rainy Lara threw 8 1/3 scoreless, one-hit innings, allowing three walks, but striking out nine batters.

Zach Collier went 2-for-3 with a walk for the Bees, who collected six hits overall in the game.
