HARTFORD - Officers discovered that a New Britain man was shot early Wednesday morning after responding to a gunfire complaint in the area of Park and Broad streets.

Angel Mangual, 36, of Talcott St., New Britain, was found at around 12:38 a.m. with a gunshot wound to the arm, police said. The bullet entered Mangual’s arm and traveled to his chest, police said. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries that appear to be non-life threatening.

While investigating, police determined that the shooting involved two scenes, one at 886 Broad St., which was the primary scene, and a secondary scene in the area of 590 Park St., Deputy Chief Brian Foley said.

There was no immediate suspect or witnesses available near where the victim was found, Foley said. Police will be looking at any surveillance footage in the area, Foley said.

“Numerous items of evidentiary value” were recovered during the investigation, Foley said.

The Major Crimes Division was notified, he said.

The gunfire that injured Mangual did not activate the city’s ShotSpotter system, Foley said.
