NEW BRITAIN - The Board of Education has completed its search for a new principal at Lincoln Elementary School.

Lisa Torres will lead Lincoln next fall. She has been assistant principal at DiLoreto Elementary and Middle School for the past four years.

The move is effective July 1.

“This upcoming year is a new beginning for all of us,” Torres told the Board of Education after her appointment. “I intend to carry on the good work that has been done here previously, and ensure it will continue and thrive.”

Torres’s experience isn’t only as an administrator, though. She has also been a reading specialist in Meriden and a teacher in New Haven, giving her 15 years of experience in education.

Current Lincoln Principal Elaine Cabral will be retiring at the end of the school year.

Cabral has been in the school district for more than 32 years.

Since April, the district has been interviewing internal and external candidates for the position.

School Superintendent Nancy Sarra said the school district Cabral’s replacements faced a three-tiered interview cycle. The level of maturity and wisdom Torres exhibited stood above the rest, Sarra said.

“We’re thrilled she’s coming on board with us as principal,” Sarra said.
