NEW BRITAIN - The “Good Old Boys” are again staging a reunion picnic for New Britain High School club members from the late 1950s and early 1960s to benefit local children in need of winter clothing.

The group is made up of members of clubs such as the Lords, The Earls and the Royal Nights and NBHS fraternities and sororities.

For the past eight years they’ve hosted a dance reunion for club members, with the proceeds going to the Prudence Crandall Center, the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center and Veterans Inc., which provides permanent supportive housing for veterans in New Britain.

Last year they took over the annual picnic hosted by the Amber Club and turned it into a club reunion picnic. Afterward, they donated $2,300 to Warm The Children, a New Britain charity that provides $60 worth of winter children to hundreds of city children. Warm The Children is organized every year by Town Clerk Mark Bernacki with The New Britain Herald, the New Britain Lions Club and dozens of volunteers who act as “shoppers” helping families pick out the clothing.

This year’s reunion picnic will be on Sept. 9 at the VFW picnic grounds at 41 Veterans Drive. It runs from noon to 4 p.m. Tickets are $15 and include a spread including hot dogs and hamburgers along with a variety of salads and light beverages.

The picnic is primarily for former club members who have a chance to get together and catch up but anybody can attend, Cisz said.

For tickets, call Feno Samperi at 860-229-9434. Tickets also will be available at the door.
