NEW BRITAIN - Santa Claus is coming to town.

From noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Amato’s Toy and Hobby, people can get their photo taken with Santa for a donation of $1 or more to the Salvation Army Toy Drive or by bringing a nonperishable food item for the local food pantry.

Bomba 97.1 radio will be broadcasting from the store and the Mofongo Restaurant will be providing food.

One person will get a chance to win as many items they can grab in 10 seconds.

Mofongo owner Vincent Placeres said he was approached by representatives of the radio station, which plays popular Hispanic music, to take part in the fundraising event and quickly jumped on board.

“It’s not about the money, it’s about the community,” said Placeres. “Members of the community recognize true leaders in the community. When people are in need, I never say no.”
