NEW BRITAIN - Mayor Erin Stewart announced late Friday that she had emergency surgery several days earlier.

“I’d just like to take a moment to thank everyone for reaching out to me this week sending healing prayers & well wishes,” she posted on Facebook.

“On Monday morning [Dec. 18] I checked myself into the ER at The Hospital of Central Connecticut for what I thought was bad heartburn, by 3 p.m. that day I was on the operating table having my severely infected gallbladder removed. The surgeons, nurses & care teams were absolutely amazing. I’m so grateful to be home & recovering. (Thanks Shawna, Yamaris, Linda, Leah, Eve & Denise!) Thank you to everyone for the well wishes & a special thank you to Dr. Posner for doing what he does best! Here’s to a healthy 2018!” she posted.

The post drew several hundred comments from well wishers.

In November, Stewart was elected to her third term as mayor. She also recently posted a “Save The Date” for her third inaugural ball, on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, at the Crystal Ballroom, 211 Farmington Ave., New Britain.

“It is sure to be a grand evening packed with entertainment - all for a great cause!” she wrote “This year we will be dancing away to the music of Timmy Maia! Proceeds from purchased tickets will go towards the Mayor’s Trophy Charitable Fund to help distribute monetary donations to local New Britain community groups. All the money raised here, stays here to help benefit our kids. Invitations will be sent out after the new year.”

Anyone interested in attending is invited to comment on her Facebook page.
