NEW BRITAIN -Mayor Erin Stewart returned to her office in City Hall on Tuesday after a brief health scare last week.

Stewart checked into the emergency room at the Hospital of Central Connecticut on Dec. 18 with what she believed was severe heartburn.

But a few hours later, Stewart was on an operating table as doctors removed her infected gallbladder.

Stewart returned home a few days after the surgery and resumed her duties at City Hall Tuesday.

“I’m grateful to be back at work and feeling better day by day,” said Stewart. “Thank you to everyone for the well wishes and a big thank you to the Hospital of Central Connecticut for getting me back quickly. Here’s to a healthy new year!”
