NEW BRITAIN - City police are seeking an arrest warrant charging an Ellis Street man with the kidnapping and assault of a woman who was found safe Sunday.

Shaquille Marquez, 21, with a last known address on Ellis Street, is still on the lam. He is accused of grabbing the woman, with whom he has a domestic relationship, and forcing her into a car Sunday morning at 194 East St.

Police received multiple calls reporting that a man was assaulting a woman and had forced her into his vehicle and drove. Marquez eluded West Hartford, East Hartford and state police after they tried to pull him over after the incident.

The car is described as a black Honda with the Connecticut license plate AF37072.

The car also has tinted windows, chrome rims and “V-Tech” written in red lettering on the lower doors, bystanders said.

The woman was later found safe during the investigation.

New Britain police obtained a warrant charging Marquez with violating conditions of his release. They are also seeking a second warrant charging him with assault and kidnapping in Sunday's incident, Chief James Wardwell said.

Anyone who has information on Marquez is asked to call 860-826-3000 or the Community Tip Line at 860-826-3199. Tips can also be left at .
