NEW BRITAIN - The Community Chest of New Britain and Berlin recently announced grants totaling more than $120,000.
At its December meeting, the board of directors at approved $121,765 in grants to seven programs at several nonprofits serving Berlin and New Britain.
Combined with $116,000 in grants awarded in June, the Community Chest provided $237,765 in grants to 17 nonprofit organizations in 2017.
The Community Chest’s December grants:
n$20,000 to CCARC in support of the Personal Education and Enrichment through Respite Services programs.
n $20,000 to Coram Deo for the Client Care Program.
n $20,000 to Foodshare in support of the organization’s work to address hunger in the New Britain community through the Mobile Foodshare Program.
n $20,000 to the Friendship Service Center for its emergency shelter and community kitchen supporting the poor and homeless population.
n $10,000 to the Literacy Volunteers of Central Connecticut for general operating support to improve the literacy of adult students and their families in New Britain.
n $16,765 to Veterans Inc. for a resident adviser position at the housing facility in New Britain.
n $15,000 to the New Britain YWCA to support the YWCA Strive youth development program.
