NEW BRITAIN - With all area schools closed Wednesday as snow and ice hit Central Connecticut, graduation dates at some high schools continue to be pushed forward.

A state statute requires schools to finish their year by the end of June, but this winter hasn’t been snowy enough to worry districts about that deadline yet.

Here’s a look at how many snow days some districts have had so far, and how the school calendar has been affected:

nBerlin schools have had four snow days so far this year, pushing the last day of school to Wednesday, June 20. Graduation is still scheduled for Saturday, June 14.

School Superintendent Brian Benigni said any further snow days would mean a later date for graduation. He also said no days will be taken from April vacation.

nBristol schools have had four snow days, pushing the final day of school and high school graduation to Friday, June 15.

nNew Britain schools have had five snow days this year, moving the last day of school to Wednesday, June 13, and graduation to Thursday, June 14. Because New Britain schools open before Labor Day, earlier than other area districts, there is plenty of room in June to continue to add days.

nNewington schools have had four snow days, pushing the last day of school to Monday, June 18. Graduation is tentatively scheduled for the same day.

nSouthington schools also have had four snow days, with the last day of school and graduation now Monday, June 18.

School officials from Plainville and Plymouth did not return phone calls Wednesday.

All of these dates could still change, as weather in New England is unpredictable and it’s only early February. For now, school officials are hoping Punxsutawney Phil’s recent forecast of more winter is wrong.
