NEW BRITAIN - Although the city’s Main Street USA celebration is still about six months away, the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department is seeking vendors to help it fill Walnut Hill Park.

This year’s event is scheduled for noon to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8.

As in the past few years, Walnut Hill Park will be filled with foods for sale, a beer and wine garden, craft and vendor booths, a “kids zone” with rides and amusement activities, helicopter rides, walk-around performers, stages with community performances, children’s entertainment, headlining musical acts and a fireworks show to end the night.

The event will feature entertainment on three stages throughout. The main stage will host a variety of live bands. The welcome stage will highlight smaller musical acts and groups, and the kids zone stage will have more of a family focus.

Behind the band shell on the interior loop road of Walnut Hill Park, food vendors will be selling fried dough and other fried treats, hot dogs and hamburgers, sausage and peppers, ethnic foods, ice cream novelties, sodas and water. Further down the road will be arts and crafts vendors, corporate vendors and civic groups that will sell goods or promote services.

Last year, more than 60 vendors lined the vendor row and more are anticipated for 2018.

The Parks Department is encouraging food vendors, arts and crafts vendors and civic groups and corporate groups to apply for booths at Main Street USA. People are encouraged to apply soon.
