NEW BRITAIN - The Rocco family of New Britain will appear on “Family Feud” Tuesday and Wednesday.

Siblings Matthew Rocco, Santo Rocco, Debbie Rocco Ursin, Leigh Rocco Johnson and Mark Rocco will compete for cash and prizes in the long-running TV game show, in which contestants have to guess the most popular responses to survey questions.

Santo Rocco said this is the second time the family has appeared on the show. The first appearance was 25 years ago, when original host Richard Dawson was still in charge.

Steve Harvey is the current host and has been since 2010.

“To get on the show, you need to audition. My niece Mackenzie saw they were holding auditions in Boston so we all decided to give it another shot and we called it the redemption tour,” Santo said.

He said the family was excited to get an opportunity to redeem themselves since last time they were on, they didn’t do as well as they had hoped.

Once they arrived on the set in Hollywood they had to audition again.

“On our stage audition, we lined up by our ages, oldest to youngest. Well, to say the least, the stage audition didn’t go very well,” Santo said.

“My sister, who was the team captain, was so nervous she had messed up the introduction of us. She even forgot my name. We thought our time was done at that point.”

To their surprise, one of the producers told them they would be staying and competing against the four-time champion Beard family.

“We felt excited that we did in fact make it, (but) on the other hand we were playing against the four-time champions and seeing how we had just bombed the stage audition, we were nervous,” Santo said.

The situation, Santo said, reminded them of 25 years ago.

“It seemed like déjà vu, so we all huddled up as a family and said, ‘Let’s just go have fun and be thankful for the opportunity,’ ” he said.

To see if the Roccos take home the grand prize, tune in to Family Feud on WCTX (MyTV9) Tuesday and Wednesday at 5 p.m.
