NEW BRITAIN - The Hospital for Special Care has named Wendy DeAngelo vice president of development and communications.

DeAngelo joined the staff late last year and will be responsible for aligning the Hospital for Special Care Foundation’s mission and strategies with the goals of the hospital.

She also will be responsible for managing all internal and external communications for the hospital and all its affiliates and oversee community services, including the HSC’s adaptive sports programs.

Before joining the hospital, DeAngelo served as chief business development officer at the Wheeler Clinic for 17 years and held previous positions at Rushford Center, Natchaug Hospital and the Middlesex County Substance Abuse Action Council.

DeAngelo has a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Business Administration degree in health care administration from the Barney School of Business at the University of Hartford.

“Wendy’s extensive background in strategic communications and philanthropic development in the nonprofit health care industry will expand our capacity to build awareness of our unique value proposition across our diverse constituent groups including our patients and their families, donors, policy makers and health systems,” said Lynn Ricci, president and chief executive officer of the Hospital for Special Care.

“We are excited to bring her fresh, creative leadership and extensive experience to our team.”
