NEW BRITAIN -The Parks, Recreation, & Community Services Department is offering a free yoga series this summer in Walnut Hill Park.

On Tuesday and Thursday evenings in June, July and August, people 14 and older can gather at the Walnut Hill Park Rose Garden to practice yoga from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The free sessions will be taught by certified instructor Kelly Murphy and her staff.

The program is made possible through a health and wellness grant to the New Britain Health Department.

“We are excited to once again offer this free yoga series in our beautiful Walnut Hill Park. Yoga has amazing benefits and I’m thankful we are able to contribute to improving the health and well-being of our residents,” Mayor Erin Stewart said in announcing the program.

The sessions will be geared toward Hatha Flow, which combines deep stretching and movement with breathing from start to finish. This is an all-level class with multiple modifications, meant to cool the body down from a busy day.

The city’s free summer yoga series requires no registration. Interested participants can show up at their own discretion. Participants are asked to bring their own yoga mats.

The first session is set for Tuesday, June 5, at 6 p.m.

Any cancellation or rescheduling announcements will be available on the department’s Facebook page.
