NEW BRITAIN - The two brothers who own Krispy Krunchy Chicken on Arch Street opened a new business next door last month.

Masoud and Tarek Almontaser had the grand opening of their second business in the city, T&M Food Mart, on May 1.

The new convenience store is at 687 Arch St. The Almontaser brothers leased the space and opened Krispy Krunchy Chicken in 2016, and the space next to it was an empty garage.

Masoud Almontaser said that about a year ago, his brother and he started to think about putting that garage to use.

The brothers, who have been New Britain residents for 25 years, spent about $40,000 renovating the space. They had to fix the walls and install windows, doors and flooring.

Masoud said it was important to create a convenience store in the neighborhood that offered easy access to customers.

Masoud said business has been a little slow to start, but he expects foot traffic to pick up as more people discover the new addition to the neighborhood.

“Hopefully, little by little, you know,” Masoud said. “As soon as they come in they see is a little place, you know, nice, clean, organized.”

Some of the items sold at T&M Food Mart are milk, coffee, cigarettes, snacks, propane and ice cream, Masoud said.

The business is staffed by the two brothers and their father.

T&M Food Mart has its own parking spaces and it is open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to midnight.
