NEW BRITAIN - The New Britain Commission on the Arts will hold an opening reception today for a new exhibition featuring the artwork of students from New Britain High School and the Satellite Careers Academy.

The exhibition is sponsored by Mayor Erin E. Stewart’s Art in the Heart of the City series and the New Britain Commission on the Arts, with the assistance of Leona Clerkin, the coordinator of fine arts, gifted and talented for the Consolidated School District of New Britain.

“New Britain is fortunate to have a rich arts community and this is fostered at an early age through our school system’s vigorous art department,” said Stewart in a press release. “We are excited to offer this gallery space to display the amazing creativity of our talented students.”

The exhibition will feature the works of 17 students in media that include markers, colored pencils, water color, pastels, mixed media, chalk, graphite, acrylic paint and ceramics.

The gallery is on the second floor of City Hall, near Room 204. It is one of several art galleries in City Hall.

The reception, set for 5 to 7 p.m., will offer light refreshments and food, including pizza donated by Roma Restaurant.
