NEW BRITAIN - The New Britain–Berlin YMCA is hoping to encourage reading this summer with a program starting in July.

The YMCA, the New Britain Public Library and the Coalition for New Britain’s Youth are hosting a reading and basketball program for youths in the city this summer.

Participants in the program will receive a one-month free membership to the YMCA as well as a Spalding basketball after they complete four weeks in the library’s Book Club.

One month of reading is required in order to receive the free membership and basketball. Participants must be 13 years old.

Participants must register for the program at the New Britain YMCA on 50 High St. by July 6. The program is free, but there is only space for 30 participants.

The New Britain Public Library’s Book Club is scheduled to meet at 11 a.m. on July 17, July 24 and July 31. The library is at 20 High St.

For more information about the summer reading and basketball program, call the YMCA at 860-229-3787 or the library at 860-224-3155.
