NEWINGTON – A Willimantic women allegedly involved in a scam to rob prostitution patrons at a local motel is facing more kidnapping, larceny and robbery charges.

Ruth Santana, 28, of 157 South St., Willimantic, is accused of participating in two robberies at the Siesta Motel in early March by posing as a prostitute.

In both cases, Santana advertised herself on Backpage.com and arranged to meet the men at the motel on the Berlin Turnpike.

Both times, the men showed up and wound up being confronted by Jose Colon, 49, of Windham, who held them at knifepoint to get them to turn over money or their ATM cards.

Santana allegedly took a debit card from one of the men, withdrew money and bought gas and groceries while Colon held the victim at knifepoint in the motel room, police said.

Colon was arrested earlier this year. Santana is facing a dozen counts including first-degree kidnapping, first-degree unlawful restraint, and first-degree robbery in the second case. She was previously arrested on similar charges in connection with the first robbery.

She was held on a total of $300,000 bond for both cases after her arraignment in New Britain Superior Court Tuesday.
