NEW BRITAIN - Maria’s Place, the food pantry at Central Connecticut State University, will be expanding and reopening today on the garage level of Vance Academic Center.

The ribbon cutting will take place at 10 a.m. Coordinators Freddy Rios and Melina Lopez will speak about the work they are doing on behalf of CCSU students.

Maria’s Place was originally located in the basement of the Newman House on Paul Manafort Drive, right outside the university.

The success of the pantry created the need for expansion of food storage and services.

“It is my hope that by offering students free, anonymous on-campus food assistance in a more centralized location, we will provide more of them with the nourishment they need to thrive academically,” CCSU President Zulma Toro said in an email to students, faculty and administration.

The event is open to the public and refreshments will be served.
