NEW BRITAIN - Mayor Erin Stewart is planning to give a “brutally honest” State of the City address tonight during the Common Council’s meeting at City Hall.
“I encourage everyone to tune in as we reflect on a productive 2018, discuss how we will continue to move New Britain forward, and frankly talk about our struggles - it will be a brutally honest address and I hope you tune in,” Stewart wrote in a Facebook post Sunday.
On Saturday, she announced on Twitter that she was working on the address.
“This one will be quite different I am sure of that,” she tweeted.
Public participation begins at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Stewart will start her speech shortly afterward.
Also on the agenda is a resolution proposed by Alderman Kristian Rosado that would notify the governor and legislature of the Common Council’s opposition to the imposition of tolls on Connecticut highways.
“It’s a non-binding resolution which carries no legal weight, but will give residents the opportunity to voice their opinions on the matter. It will also give every member of the city council the opportunity to show the residents of our city where they stand on the issue,” he said.
When asked his thoughts on the upcoming State of the City address, Rosado responded, “I’m looking forward to it.”
The meeting, including the address, will be telecast on Comcast channel 96, Comcast HD channel 1084 and Frontier channel 60/62.
City Hall is at 27 W. Main St.
